Jerry Clements (right) and Fred Thompson with "The Cake"

The date of this picture was 7-16-67 and the place was Da Nang RVN behind MWSG-17 mess hall.  When we came into work we found this cake that said "Happy Birthday Tom and Jerry".  It was the day after a big rocket attack on our base and me and Fred and our hut-mates sat in the bunker that night making nervous jokes about seeing our next birthday. Between me and you, I wasn't joking.  You can't imagine what it meant to us to find this cake. Jerry.

Col. Oliver North and myself taken at Haverford College in Pa. in April of 1967.  The Col. had come to answer a challenge from the young communist society at the University.  He mad a speech and then answered questions for over an hour from  750 of the most liberal, privileged young college students in this country.  The students had prepared  their questions in advance and Col. North just let them ask anything.  When all was said and done the Col. had left the students in ideological ruin./////  It was a great pleasure to witness this and then to meet Col. North afterward.  Here,  I was presenting  a picture of my family in uniform to Col. North. col. North sent a personal letter of congratulations to my son Jeffrey and his wife.  ///  The Col. is an inspired speaker, a true gentleman and the model of the Marine Officer.  Jerry
